From: Human Clay ; Year: 1999; Genre: Alternative Rock I don't know why, but was thinking about the band Creed today, not really their music per se, but about back when they were everywhere about two and a half decades ago. I personally remember their music and music videos being everywhere; heck, even to this day I cannot stand With Arms Wide Open . Not that there is a problem with the song, but it just got way overplayed and shoved down my throat to the point I made a rather dirty parody to it.... Whilst I have never claimed or had my "thumb on the pulse" of music news or wot is going on therein, I do remember the band seemingly imploding somewhere around '03. I believe that substance abuse by the front man and perhaps one other member led to their disbanding. From wot I've read, it seems that they reunited a couple of times since and recorded an album back in '09, but, again I have not checked them out; I hope they're doing well in their endeavours. Any...
Have I mentioned how much I freaking love the Counterparts album?
ReplyDeleteI freaking love the Counterparts album.
Carry on.
It's high on my list as well, probably my favourite from the '90s; I only wish that "Test for Echo" would've continued what "Counterparts" started.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, did you hear that they finally got nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Deep Purple? I really don't know what to say about it; one part of me is happy, but another part of me wishes that if they do get in they should turn it down.
Oh yeah, is there any news on your blog possibly coming back? That would be totally awesome to have another blogger.
I suppose recognition from the Hall would be nice. But I've never believed that they really needed that kind of attention. I just read a column from someone who says they should not get in solely because of Geddy Lee's voice:
Delete"The defining characteristic of any band is the quality of the lead singer's voice. When said voice works within such a cringe-worthy frequency range as Lee's, the question of aesthetic disqualification looms large. For that reason alone Rush doesn't deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame."
In other words, another ignorant journalist who fails to realize he hasn't sung like that in nearly 30 years. What, no bitching about endless solos or Ayn Rand? And his opening salvo is bogus too - lots of things define a band. To claim a singer's voice as a singular defining characteristic seems awfully short-sighted.
RE: my old blog: as far as I know the PressHarbor service still has the files from my old Blogware blog. They want $99 to do the migration, and I'd also have to pay them monthly. I should at least contact them and see if they can still do that. Hell, I should probably do it just because I kinda miss my old articles, even though I still have no job (LOL ME).
I kind of expected articles like that, but I fully believe that they'll get in, or at least Deep Purple will due to all of the furor raised about their snubbing of legendary acts. As I said, I am torn as to feel a sense of vindication or insult from them getting nominated after all of the snubbing.
DeleteIt's no surprise to hear another generic hammering of Geddy Lee's vocals. What I've always found weird, however, is that Geddy's voice has almost has the same quality as that of Robert Plant, but you almost never hear people hammering him or Led Zeppelin.
It's definitely strange how so many hipsters have been going out of their way to discredit bands like Rush over the years; I guess that they are a band for either musicians or nerds/misfits. Just once I'd like to hear one of them admit that they are a good band. I know it will never happen, c'est la vie.
Yeah, that really sucks about being out of work, I know how you feel; the market is crap. You can find a lot of jobs posted on indeed.com. However, even as it is right now only 15% of all jobs landed are advertized. You'd think that with the place technology has taken in our world that wouldn't be the case.
Anyway, maybe until you get your files out of purgatory you could start up a temporary one on a blogger account; at least it's free.
Thanks for stopping by again and keep in touch.
