6291. Johann Sebastian Bach - BWV 542 - Great Fantasia and Fugue in G-Minor

Another year has passed whilst another one begins; 17 years now unless my arithmetic has failed once more... hard to believe it's been this long. Oh well, moving right along....
As usual I am choosing another one from the master of all things musical from the Baroque period: Johann Sebastian Bach. This is one of his grandiose organworks that is a truly typical piece for him; it absolutely will not fade into the background when you play it and will flat-out demand your attention, but that's one the aspects of Bach's works that I love so much.

738 ( The Allman Brothers Band - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed ) I am need of some Allman Brothers music this morning and I remembered this nice Jazz Fusion track from their Idlewild South album. What is so awesome about the earlier Allman Brothers music is the fact that they had not one, but two guitar legends in the group. This instrumental was an excellent vehicle for showcasing both Duane Allman's and Richard "Dickey" Betts' amazing skills on the guitar. From: In a Sentimental Mood ; Year: 1989; Genre: Swing/Big Band Jazz Had this song on my mind since yesterday; quite a catchy and upbeat track to say the least. This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. From wot I understand the title and main idea of the song was borrowed from a sermon by a popular preacher at the time, Father Divine , which translated very well into an upbeat song. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
