Off and on over the last 17-plus years or so I've been at this blog been meaning to either pick or erroneously believing that I already chose this legendary psychedelic proto-metal classic and am now finally doing so.
I don't know exactly wot it is about this song for me personally, I do not think about it much, but when I do I immediately crank it and "rock out." It has always been one that most people enjoy and has been in popular culture off and on over the years. This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
