From: Fight for the Rock, Year: 1986

Starting another theme week; the theme? Cover songs performed by famous bands. This song was originally written by Pete Ham and recorded by his band Badfinger.
This is one of the few bright spots on a rather unremarkable album; Fight for the Rock itself was really the result of Savatage's recording label leaning on the band to make an album they didn't want in the first place. When you look at the pure caliber and awesomeness of the preceding album: (Power of the Night) and the album that succeeded it: (Hall of the Mountain King), Fight for the Rock just cannot even compare. It's kind of telling when one of the best tracks from a Metal album is a cover of a '70s Pop/Rock song.
I actually like their cover of this song quite a bit; I only wish that they would have added more of Criss Oliva's guitar to the mix and perhaps a longer and different guitar solo, but for some reason he more or less used the same one that was in the original; quite a shame.
