I had this rather neat and interesting song from guitar great Steve Vai on my mind this morning and thought I would go ahead and pick it.
As far as I know only the live version from the 2004 G3 Live album exists, but when you are talking about an artist at the level of Steve Vai the live version is almost preferable anyway. You have to love that triple-necked guitar he plays on the video; each of the necks are quite different: one normal neck, one 12 string neck, and one that is fretless. It's truly an awesome thing to watch him work that instrument over.

738 ( The Allman Brothers Band - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed ) I am need of some Allman Brothers music this morning and I remembered this nice Jazz Fusion track from their Idlewild South album. What is so awesome about the earlier Allman Brothers music is the fact that they had not one, but two guitar legends in the group. This instrumental was an excellent vehicle for showcasing both Duane Allman's and Richard "Dickey" Betts' amazing skills on the guitar. 1258 Jethro Tull - By Kind Permission Of I've had this track on my mind, so I figured it would be a nice Friday pick. This is essentially a 10-minute John Evans' keyboard solo with a bit of Ian's flute; it was recorded live at Carnegie Hall in late 1970 and later appeared on their compilation album: Living in the Past . It was one of two songs on the album that were recorded live, the other being Dharma for On e ; both of these songs together took up an entire side of one of the two records. Apparently the song got its title, ( By Kind Permission Of ), from John Evans borrowing sections for the song from some famous classical pieces and for obvious reasons could not procure permission to use them from the original authors. The pieces he used were, I do believe: Claude Debussy's Golliwog's Cakewalk , Rachmaninov's Prelude in G Sharp Minor , and Beethoven's Sonate #8: Pathétique . Hear By Kind Permission Of on YouTube. From: Stardust (soundtrack) ; Year: 1974; Genre: Rock Apparently this song came was the title-track to the film of the same name, which Essex starred along side Keith Moon, David Edmunds, Adam Faith, and Larry Hagman amongst others. It apparently centered around a fictional group call the Stray Cats, (not to be confused with the real-life rockabilly band led by Brian Setzer), throughout the turbulent 1960 and the trials and such that went along with the characters. Funny enough, apparently Lowdown Popcorn is the only studio recording on this live double album; they just added reverb, echoes, and crowd noise to make it fit in with the rest of the material on it.
