6105. Macy And Company - Sixteen Tons

From: Movements Vol. 11; Year: 2022; Genre: Soul/Funk/Jazz/Blues
As with the majority of deep cuts from the Movements Collection compiled by Tobias Kirmayer, I know very little about this band except that they were busy during the mid 1950s until a leader of the band apparently got in an accident and was paralyzed.
Sixteen Tons is a track made for this genre of music, however, it works so well across the board in almost any genre with its very universal subject matter concerning hard labor and scraping by.
Anyway, I really love the blend of the jazzy blues and soul with a good helping of early funk in this one, and the vocals are top-notch to boot; he sound a lot like Mose Allison in my opinion.
