This classic from the one and only Billie Holiday has been on my mind off and on for the last few days, so I am picking it. Apparently both Louis "Pops" Armstrong and Bing Crosby both recorded their versions prior, whilst I admire and deeply love their work, for this song in particular it is Billie Holiday's recording that takes the cake so to speak.

738 ( The Allman Brothers Band - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed ) I am need of some Allman Brothers music this morning and I remembered this nice Jazz Fusion track from their Idlewild South album. What is so awesome about the earlier Allman Brothers music is the fact that they had not one, but two guitar legends in the group. This instrumental was an excellent vehicle for showcasing both Duane Allman's and Richard "Dickey" Betts' amazing skills on the guitar. From: In a Sentimental Mood ; Year: 1989; Genre: Swing/Big Band Jazz Had this song on my mind since yesterday; quite a catchy and upbeat track to say the least. This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. From wot I understand the title and main idea of the song was borrowed from a sermon by a popular preacher at the time, Father Divine , which translated very well into an upbeat song. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
