I don't know much about this song or artist that I found on this record recently, but I like it. Most of the material that I have heard on the album seems to come from many different eras too; most from the 1970s it would seem, but with this one being from J Rocc, who is a DJ/Hip Hop artist I believe it is, (as the title of piece suggests), a mix of many different parts of many funk songs over the years. This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. From wot I understand the title and main idea of the song was borrowed from a sermon by a popular preacher at the time, Father Divine , which translated very well into an upbeat song. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
