Image
From: Keeper Of The Seven Keys (part 1) ; Year: 1987; Genre: Power Metal I usually try to make an appropriate pick to match holidays like today, but I really didn't put much thought into my pick for this Halloween. Image
From: A Show of Hands ; Year: 1996; Genre: Jazz Fusion/Funk 112 consecutive Funky Fridays in the can with today's pick; this is a far out entertaining track in the style that only the great Mr. Wooten could do. Other than some minor accompaniment this entire album featured just him his trusty bass guitar; a master and his tools. Watch a live performance along with an interview on YouTube. 3015-17. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - The Endless Enigma (Part 1)/Fugue/The Endless Enigma (Part 2)

Image
From: Trilogy ; Year: 1972; Genre: Progressive Rock/classical After listening to a bunch of ELP last night there were a few songs I had in mind for today's pick; this mini three-part magnum opus won out though. It's strange; even though this one is over 10 minutes of music, and highly technical at that, this one keeps you captivated for the entire length of the piece. Hear The Endless Enigma in its entirety on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Hawkwind - Lost Chances My song pick two years ago today: Elton John - Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time) My song pick three years ago today: Béla Bartók - BB 52 - String Quartet No. 1 in A minor My song pick four years ago today: Victor Wooten - Us 2 My song pick five years ago today: The Sons of the Pioneers - Cool Water My song pick six years ago today: Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky My song pick seven years ago today: Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) - Here is the News My ...

Image
From: The Little Old Lady from Pasadena ; Year: 1964; Genre: Surf Rock/Pop I had this fun song running through my mind yesterday and it's still in my mind this morning. This one brings back a lot of memories for me from when I was growing up; my Dad had this one along with many other 60s surf rock/pop hits and we must've listened to this one over at least 500 times. It's quite a cute track about a sweet old lady who is the king of street racing in the Los Angeles area. Hear The Little Old Lady from Pasadena on YouTube. Image
From: Led Zeppelin II ; Year: 1969; Genre: Hard Rock I haven't picked anything from Led Zeppelin in a while, and since they're on my mind I thought I would go ahead and pick one today. Image
From: Against the Wind ; Year: 1980; Genre: Rock I had a bunch of Bob Seger's music playing in my mind today, as usually I took it as a sign to pick one of them. Image
From: Woman in the Wings ; Year: 1978; Genre: Folk Rock/Progressive Rock I was in the mood for something from Maddy Prior's solo work today; of course I drifted towards my favourite of her albums. I love the music and how it was arranged in this one, and the vocals are as good as always, but I definitely could do without the repetitive section at the end. Hear Rosettes on YouTube. 3011. Three Dog Night - Feelin' Alright

Image
From: Suitable for Framing ; Year: 1969; Genre: Funk Rock Yesterday I discovered that Three Dog Night singer Cory Wells had passed away , so I thought it would be apropos to pick one of their songs; of the three lead singers with the band he was the one with the really powerful and soulful voice. 3010. Dick Dale - Third Stone From the Sun

Image
From: Calling Up Spirits ; Year: 1996; Genre: Surf Rock The last few times I've been on the road this cover of the Jimi Hendrix classic by the King of the Surf Guitar himself, Dick Dale has come on my playlist. 3009. Huey Lewis and the News - Power of Love

Image
From: Back to the Future (soundtrack) ; Year 1985; Genre: Rock/Pop Today is the 21st of October, 2015, which is also the date that Doc Brown and Marty McFly traveled to in the second Back to the Future , which is a very, very popular film classic. Whilst in reality "the future" turned out quite a bit different, it was still quite a vision for a time that was 30 years in the future! Now I'm feeling old; I remember when all three movies came out.... Anyway, I figured I should mark the occasion with a very appropriate song; this was one of the two songs that acted as the film's theme and is immediately recognizable and, funny enough, not really a dated song in any way for a 30 year old song. Hear Power of Love on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Black Sabbath - Paranoid My song pick two years ago today: The Cult - Painted on My Heart My song pick three years ago today: Scott Joplin - The Entertainer My song pick four years ago today: Maktub - ...

3008. The Kinks - Destroyer

Image
From: Give the People What They Want ; Year: 1981; Genre: Hard Rock For some reason this morning The Kinks' early '80s hit Destroyer on my mind, so, as usual, I thought I'd go ahead and pick it. 3006. U.K. - In the Dead of the Night

Image
From: U.K. ; Year; 1978; Genre: Progressive Rock I've been meaning to pick something from this progressive rock supergroup made up of members from the likes of: Roxy Music, Yes, King Crimson, Curved Air, and Sound Machine to name just a few. 3005. Motörhead - Motorhead

Image
From: Motörhead ; Year: 1977; Genre: Metal This morning I had some Motörhead on my mind so I'm choosing one of their songs for my pick today. Of course this is the eponymous single from the album of the band's namesake and debut. Originally Motorhead was recorded with Hawkwind whilst Lemmy was in the band and was also the song's author. While still very similar to the Hawkwind version this one's a bit edgier and in my opinion the sound mix was a wee bit too dirty, but still a good version. It's very much fun to hear the early material from bands that would go on to become legends like this one. Hear Motorhead on YouTube. My song pick one year ago today: Leon Mitchison and the Eastex Freeway Band - Street Scene My song pick two years ago today: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) My song pick three years ago today: Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing My song pick four years ago today: Rush - Leave That Thing Al...

3003. King Crimson - Lament

Image
From: Starless and Bible Black ; Year: 1974; Genre: Progressive Rock/Hard Rock I was in the mood for some mid 1970s King Crimson this morning; this song seemed like an excellent pick. 3001. Sky - Sahara

Image
From: Sky 2 ; Year: 1980; Genre: Progressive Rock/Symphonic Rock/Flamenco Rock Starting my foray into the 3000s of songs picked with this rather astounding and interesting song from the band Sky. As the title, Sahara , would suggest this one has a lot of the Arabic style of Flamenco all through it mixed with some classical and good 'ol hard rock. The classical guitar is amazing along with the rest of the band. Hear Sahara on YouTube. 2999 Genesis - A Trick of the Tail

Image
From: A Trick of the Tail ; Year: 1976; Genre: Progressive Rock For some reason it felt like a great day for picking a song from the band Genesis.
