Even though only about 1/3 of this song is about Christmas time, it has been included on a few Christmas albums and the overall exposition on the human condition in the lyrics makes it fit in pretty well. This is, of course, the Anglicized version of the song originally performed back during Post War times by Edith Piaf, but this is more of a cover of the version recorded by The Melody Maids in 1948 called The Three Bells; the song has been covered many times since by many different artists.

This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. From wot I understand the title and main idea of the song was borrowed from a sermon by a popular preacher at the time, Father Divine , which translated very well into an upbeat song. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
