Ronnie Milsap was one whose music I was very well introduced to early on and one I still appreciate a lot. Most of the songs on this album in particular I remember quite well, so I wouldn't be surprised if my Mom and Dad had it, but this track is probably my personal favourite.
Wot I have always really liked about country/western music trough the '70s and early '80s in particular is how it had a crossover appeal with other forms of popular music as well as being the last era without that hideous and annoying, exaggerated vocal "twang" that, since the late '80s on has inundated the genre worse than autotune has permeated pop music for over two decades now. This one is a standard from during the height of The War, originally written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. From wot I understand the title and main idea of the song was borrowed from a sermon by a popular preacher at the time, Father Divine , which translated very well into an upbeat song. Anyway, I have had this concept record by Paul Kantner and company on my mind off and on over the last bit and decided now would be a good time to choose another track from it. This is the "grand finale" of the "space opera" concept, which features a big group of who's who from the folk rock scene at the time contributing on this track and a few others. Starship features the lead guitar of the late-great Jerry Garcia, although you really wouldn't need to be told that because it is so obvious his sound and style.
